Just started watching a lot of you video clips a couple of days ago. Really like what your doing. I happen to watch a lot of wine related videos. I happen to be from Texas and blog about Texas wine and the wine industry. My account on Cork’d features many of my tasting notes from my favorite wines and wineries.
But to be truthful, I have never been impressed with anything Sister Creek has produced. I personally find their wines a bit awkward, but also there are those here in Texas that love their wines. I would be happy to recommend wines from producers here in Texas that have the Texas wine fans buzzing lately.
But nice to see someone going out of the way to try a new wine like you did. Just got back from a road trip to the Texas Hill country where I tasted almost every wine from every vineyard, and had some pretty surprising results.
Also would like to mention that, I too, am a big fan of Sojourn Cellars and have been a member of theirs for awhile now.
Thanks for the kind words and for watching the videos. I’d love to hear your suggestions on other Texan wineries to try. Frankly, the wine was good (maybe not earth-shattering), but I was just excited to try some of the local grape juice. I walked around Austin and checked out some bands at a couple of local bars, but they were the kind of establishments where ordering wine would have gotten me dirty looks, so I stuck with beer..!
Yea, I don’t blame you for stickin’ to beer. I do the same when I’m in the bars in downtown Austin as well. Next time when you are in Texas I recommend seeking out Texan Tempranillo or Viognier wines. I believe these two varietals hold the future to Texas wine success. Unfortunately a lot of vintners here have wine “A.D.D.” and can’t concentrate on just one or two varietals, and they would rather make pretty mediocre wines from 10 different grapes (some not even close to being suited for our weather). Inwood Estates, and Alamosa Cellars make good tempranillo. Becker, Brennan, and McPherson Vineyards make good viognier. During my latest trip I surprised by Texas Hills vineyards Newsom Vineyard cab and Becker’s chenin blanc. But anyways, my main goal is to get people (like you) to not come away from Texas saying our wine sucks, but to REALLY see what we are doing well. Just want to make the labyrinthe of good Texas wine a little easier. Hope you enjoy!
I’ll keep my eye out for some Texan Viognier and Tempranillo… I really hope we get to take a trip to Texan wine country in the near future….
