Easter Baseball And Spanish White.

Easter Sunday was a great day for baseball. My Dodgers played the Diamondbacks and later, the Cubs and the Brewers went at it. So long before the ham and zinfandel, I was enjoying a nice white wine while perched on my sofa watching the games.
I wonder when they were loading the bottles of 2006 Tajinaste Valle de la Orotava on the truck, if they envisioned some guy in Los Angeles opening a bottle to enjoy while watching baseball. I’m not even sure if they loaded it on a truck; it might have been a boat, as I’m told this wine is actually from the Canary Islands.

It’s a grape I’d never heard of, the Listán Blanco, but it sorta reminded me of a crisp, Sauvignon Blanc. Lots of citrus on the nose, with pear, peach and to a lesser degree lime and melon on the palate. Light background notes of minerals lingered; a bright, crisp acidity is balanced elegantly. I enjoyed this wine with some pita and cucumber tzatziki, but it could have easily gone well with any seafood or shellfish dish.
Oh, and it goes really well with Sunday afternoon baseball.
