Crisp And Clean; No Caffeine.

For those of you that were around in 1983, that was the slogan for 7up, and one that is burned into my head forever (branding works kids). And that’s what came to mind when I tried this citrus Sauv Blanc from Lake County, just north of Napa.

The 2006 Pellegrini “Leveroni Vineyard” Lake County Sauvignon Blanc was nice and cold, which is just what I needed on an unusually warm day. A nice light color, (with lots of condensation on the glass.. YES!), the nose instantly gave me the citrus notes which inspired the 7up reference. It was crisp and the acidity was balanced- with more citrus (lemon/lime/grapefruit) on the palate, along with some tropical flavors (kiwi and pineapple).
I drank this all by itself to cool me off, but would have been perfect with the pasta and cream sauce I blogged about the other day (even though it’s a California wine), as well as seafood like sauteed scallops or a salmon fillet.
Crisp and clean indeed. Here’s the commercial from the 80’s I’m talking about. Check out the spot where they grow the 7up (7up’s vineyard?). And Mello Yello? Do they even make that anymore?
