A Taste Of Pomelo…

Last night was a chilly Monday night in Southern California, and in order to keep us warm my wife was turning to the big guns. On the stove was a pot of her mother’schilli. We’re not talking Dennisons, this is homemade, Mexican-American culinary artistry at it’s finest, with chunks of pork, tomatoes, green beans, potatoes and some HOT, green chilli. In anticipation, I opened up a nice, cold bottle of white wine, in the hopes of quenching the fire that would soon be burning in my mouth…
And let me tell you, the chilli was hot. But the bottle of 2006 Pomelo Sauvignon Blanc was just what the doctor ordered. A flowery nose took me to a crisp and tasty mouthful of wine, like a bite of a grapefruit (or maybe even a pomelo?), it was a wonderful way to survive the scorching that my mouth was getting.
And by the way, this bottle of California goodness is totally affordable, generally less than ten bucks. (You can pick it up at K and L and BevMo!). It’s made by Randy Mason, owner/winemaker at Napa Valley’s Mason Cellars. Randy is no doubt a lover of Sauvignon Blanc as he makes several of them, including a reserve. On the Mason site, Wine Spectator is quoted as saying “Randy Mason is one of the best Sauvignon Blanc producers in California”.
He certainly made my mother-in-law’s chilli go down nicely…

If you would like the label you can collect a fine art print of the painting at…
