Don’t Throw Away Those Corks!!!

My good friend Jeff has been saving every cork we’ve popped in the last two years for a yet-to-be-built dart board. However if DIY home projects are not your thing, there are other options.
Wine lovers have a new way to help the environment by saving their old corks, thanks to the Recork America Project sponsored by the world’s largest wine cork producer, Amorim. The project is working in conjunction with Whole Foods stores in Northern California and Reno to collect the used corks from consumers, and is also collecting corks from San Fancisco Bay area restaurants. The corks will be ground into composte, rather than ending up in a landfill.
Another option, courtesey of Missouri based Yemm & Hart, turns recycled corks into floor tile.
See the whole article here in The Cellarist column of www.sfgate.com.
Ask Jeff to make you a pin/notice board – I have a couple and am reminded of the wines I’ve enjoyed (excluding however the non-screwcap wines!) as the corks, cut in half lengthways, exhibit any text they have on them.
That’s a great idea Brett. Email pic’s to us at contact@wineexpedition.com and we’ll post ‘em in the blog!
