Back To Work…

…so I decided to close out the weekend and the winter break with some great food and wine…
I picked up a nice piece of salmon at the market and decided to prepare it ‘en Papillote’ (in a bag). I lathered it with some basil butter, threw in some lemon juice and a plethora of veggies: green beans, carrots, brussels sprouts and potatoes, sealed the oven bag and stuck it in the oven for a half hour.
When it came out I had a healthy, tasty meal on my hands. And to wash it all down? A fantastic bottle of 2005 Grgich Hills Estate Napa Valley Chardonnay.
If you’ve been to Grgich Hills Estate you probably know that chardonnay is something they do well; when WineExpedition visited the winery, Mike Grgich introduced his winery as “the house that Chardonnay built”.
This bottle certainly did not disappoint; it had a lovely nose of pears, and upon reaching my taste-buds, flavors of honeysuckle and the aforementioned pears were abundant, with a nice creamy mouth-feel. The oak and acid are nicely balanced, and it worked really well my salmon.
I’ve got leftovers in the fridge… It might be a good Monday night option as well….
