Winnebago Wine

May 21, 2009 by Neil

Winnebago Wine 1047169x The Wine Expedition RV is not really a Winnebago; it’s actually ‘The Executive’, but ‘Winnebago Wine’ sounds kinda cool.  Actually, WINEebago sounds even better, but for now, we’ve got the Executive.  The point is, while we were up in wine country, living in the RV we needed to make sure we were stocked up on a few bottles to open before bedtime.

The bottle we opened on night #1 was the 2004 Joel Gott “Sarah’s Metier #4″ Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa.  This wine is hand Crafted by Sarah Gott (Joel’s wife) who previously made wine at places like Joseph Phelps and Quintessa.

This is a Napa cab alright (100%); the nose has a nice black cherry and plum aroma with a smidgen of smokey cocoa.  The palate is all about good, ripe, dark fruit, textured and complex.  A touch of oak and a nice, long finish.  This wine would go good with a nice, juicy steak, but we drank it all by itself while looking up at the star-filled Napa sky and not really missing Los Angeles at all.
