Winnebago Wine #2

That’s right, there was more than one bottle of wine on tap in the RV for our weekend wine trip to Napa. Number two was from Bordeaux.
We opened it up on our second night in wine country, when we were parked somewhere between the outskirts of downtown Sonoma and the Glen Ellen area (We were down the road from the Valley of the Moon winery).
We opened up the 2005 Bastide de Dauzac as we looked up at the moon (and the stars). I don’t know if the same stars were shining down on the Margaux area of Bordeaux, but that’s where this blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc hails from. The wine was a nice, dark purple color (at least as far as I could tell in the moonlight), and had a distinct, sweet fruity nose that I noticed immediately. On the palate, dark fruits reigned supreme with plums and a bit of acidity. It’s not heavy or big, rather firm and lean with an ample amount of tannins.
It was a nice finish to our Saturday in Napa, and we hit the sack in anticipation of our Sonoma Sunday…
