That’s A Big Cab Chad.

Thats a Big Cab Chad. chadwick

When I say Cab, I mean Cabernet Sauvignon, and when I say Chad, I mean Eduardo Chadwick, one of the leading figures in the Chilean wine world.  If you’ve visited the site, you probably know that we’re hot on Chilean wine.  We’ve been loving the crisp Sauvignon Blancs and the tasty Carmeneres.  And now there’s this big, bad Cabernet…

My buddy Steve had stopped by the house and we had just finished eating some tamales (I know, shocking).

It had been a rough week for both of us, so it seemed only fitting that I dug deep into the wine fridge for this bad boy, the 2001 Errazuriz “Vinedo Chadwick”.  I had been saving it for such an occasion, so out came the decanter and out came the cork.

Dark purple in color, this wine is made from Cabernet grapes from Chile’s Maipo Valley.  The nose is wild; like a dark berry wrapped in a spicy chocolate sauce.  As soon as it hit my tongue, I was blown away by the layers and layers of flavors in this wine.  Full-bodied, yet elegant, flavors of dark berries, cherries, spices, leather, licorice, tar- it’s all there and then some, with a long, tannin-laced finish.  It was incredible and it made the worries of the week disappear.

Apparently we’re not the only ones who loved this wine:  Robert Parker gave it a 92 and Wine & Spirits gave it a 91.

Thanks Mr. Chadwick…
