Quick Review: Tuscany For Twelve Dollars.

If you visit the blog frequently (and if you don’t, you should…) you know that I’m not shy about my desire to find as many WINE DEALS as possible. I like bargains, but I don’t like bad wine. Sometimes it’s a challenge to get both GOOD and CHEAP. But that’s what I do-I can’t change who I am: I search out the deals and pass ‘em on to you.
I stopped by my friendly neighborhood wine shop hoping to score a good buy and lo and behold, right in front of me was a stack of cases and an $11.99 price tag.
Now before you say “Neil, that’s great, but what do you know? How can I be sure that it’s really a good wine?” My Reply: “because Wine Spectator says so… they gave it 92 points”. And then you’d say, “oooohhhh”.
The bottle that’s generating all this imaginary conversation is the 2006 Villa Pillo Borgoforte. A blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, it has nice, layered red fruit on the nose, with cherry and blackberry on the palate and hints of licorice and vanilla. It’s full and lush with silky tannins and a nice, long finish.
In my experience, good Italian wines can be twice as much as this, so for twelve bucks you really can’t go wrong…

I have had this wine several times, and remember earlier vintages from my days in Switzerland and have to say it is a killer deal, I challenge you to find something with equal QPR.
Bottoms Up,
