Playoff Vino…

To use the parlance of the day – or rather the parlance of the season (it is October after all, and the baseball post-season is just starting to heat up) I am 0 for 3 this week. In other words, I have attempted to go to my local supermarket three different times this past week, use my better instincts and blindly try a wine I knew absolutely nothing about. That’s right, 0 for 3. Three crappy wines not one “hit” until… I found bottle number “4” and yes, I eventually went 1 for 4. Not exactly Hall of Fame material, but not bad enough to get me sent back down to the minors either…
For some strange reason, the one that did it was a 2004 Clos Pegase Cabernet Sauvignon – Napa Valley Estate Bottled. For some strange reason it jumped out at me right off the shelf. Maybe it was because it was the only wine on the wall that wasn’t a 2005 or 2006? What I do know is that it was reasonably priced (around $30) and was very tasty. A little bit dry with some rather leathery notes accompanied by a definite hint of blackberry. Nice stuff.
All in all, a good by for thirty bucks. This wine didn’t disappoint at all. A definite recommend.
