Little Italy.

I was walking through the wine store (as I often do) looking for something special to call out to me and say “I’m the wine you’re looking for!” It’s not always easy to find; it needs to be something tasty, something unique and of course a good deal (you should know this by now).
So this particular Monday night, just as I was about to settle for something, I heard the voice. It was coming from a stack of little half bottles of 2000 Salcheto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. “Hmm, a 2000- that’s interesting”, I thought to myself; “And a Super-Tuscan…” And it was $7.99 (marked down from $19). I grabbed it.
I got home and settled in to go through email and work on blogs. Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that my heater was out, and since the heater repairman wasn’t coming till the next day, I needed my little Super-Tuscan to keep me warm. As I poured a glass, questions raced through my head: Was it gonna be good? Was there something wrong with it? Why was it marked down?
It turns out that my anxiety was for naught. The answers to my questions were “Yes”, “No” and “It doesn’t matter”. This was a fantastic bottle of wine and it more than kept me warm. This full bodied wine filled my nose with aromas of light fruit and I immediately got black cherries and vanilla on the palate followed by silky tannins and a nice finish. And being a half-bottle it was the perfect amount for a weeknight.
I’m happy to report that the heater is fixed, but I just may go back and get a couple more little bottles of Salcheto in case it breaks again…
