Bordeaux On Sale!

I stopped by to see my friends at K&L Wine Merchants last week, and I was in the mood for something red and something French. Once again the sales rack did not disappoint, and I found a nice little wine from the Haut-Médoc appellation, and it was on sale for $12.00!
The 2004 Château Paloumey is a blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. The wine is classified as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur. I could type paragraphs to give the complete definition, but suffice to say it means the wine is pretty damn good.
I brought out my trusty Vinturi, and it was ON.

The wine has a nice dark ruby color, and as I brought it to my nose I got a nice whiff of black currants and red berries with a touch of earthy mineral notes. On the palate, big fruit: blackberries, cherry, even a little strawberry, but the fruit is deftly balanced with spices, smoky oak and a tinge of mint. Tannins are supple and it has a nice finish. It’s an easy-drinker, all by itself but would be a great match with a nice, juicy steak. If you don’t have a Vinturi, make sure you decant for a bit.
If you’re able, give this wine a try. For 12 bucks, you can’t go wrong.
