A Great Napa Cabernet Deal!!!

As a wise man once said “you get what you pay for”. While this rule may be true most of the time, there are definitely exceptions. Case in point: I was invited to a friends house for dinner last night and decided to pick up a nice bottle along the way – as you’re never supposed to show up empty handed, especially when they’re serving a really good prime steak.
As I popped into my friendly neighborhood wine shop to pick out a nice bottle to accompany this presumably great meal, I quickly noticed that a lot of wines were on sale that day, but one particular wine was 50% off it’s regular price tag of 33 bucks. It was called Nine Points and it’s from Napa.
Although I’ve learned that you can never judge a bottle by its label, I immediately noticed the artwork – a pair of intertwined deer antlers. Then read the fine print…
Turns out that this bottle is an off-label from Stag’s Leap Winery and although I know absolutely nothing about this wine in particular, I know that SLW makes some really great wine. So, what the hell, it’s from Stag’s Leap Winery and its going for 17.99 from it’s orginal 33 bucks.
Sold.
As I took my first taste later that night, all reservations I had about buying a wine so heavily discounted were quickly quashed. On sale or at full price, this is a really good bottle of wine. Drinks a lot like it’s bigger brothers – big and bold with nice tannins and a nice oak finish. Not jammy at all, and very rich in color. All in all this is a really good steak wine…
