$15 Ticket To Medoc

Wednesday night in Los Angeles… Seemed like a good time to open up the bottle of French wine that was recommended at my local wine shop as a good deal…
From the Medoc region in the left bank of Bordeaux, this 2005 Chateau Poitevin cost me all of 15 bucks. There was no food of note involved; a leftover salad (it was late, I was tired). This wine is classified as a Cru Bourgeois, (a good read on Bordeaux classification can be found here at The Wine Doctor).
This is a pleasant, easy-drinking wine that consists of 55% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petite Verdot. It has a very interesting nose, with aromas of tea and herbs. Once it made it into my mouth, I tasted lots of plum, and it finished nicely; it’s tannins warmed me up on this cold January night.
I’m told that 2005 was a great year for Medoc and all of Bordeaux (Robert Parker’s Vintage Guide shows a lot of 90+’s), so keep that in mind when you’re at your local wine shop. It’s a good call for a Wednesday… or maybe a Thursday (I saved a third of the bottle for tonight).
I love those kind of moments! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Moody Wine Drinker. I love VinoCruz by the way…
