Pitch Me A Glass Of Cabernet

It’s May, and we’re in the heart of baseball season.  If you’ve been following the blog you know that we’re fans of America’s Favorite Past-time here at WineExpedition, although wine is officially our favorite past-time.

…and while we don’t own a a baseball-bat decanter like the one pictured above, we’ve been known to have a glass of wine while watching the game. That said, I’ve found it awfully difficult to order wine with my Dodger dog; I generally still reach for an ice cold beer.

That said, thanks to Rollie Fingers, we have another way to enjoy our two favorite past-times simultaneously.

The Hall-of-Fame pitcher and his partners are bringing us Cooperstown Cuvee, a series of wines named after baseball legends. The first is a Cabernet Sauvignon named after Fingers himself. Names that have been talked about for future blends include Rich “Goose” Gossage, Brooks Robinson and Harmon Killebrew.

Fingers, who doesn’t drink hard alcohol, enjoys the benefits of red wine, and has a glass or two of his favorite, Cabernet Sauvignon, with dinner. We’re not sure how often he open a bottle of his own Cuvee, but it retails for about $15 a bottle and won a bronze medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.

You can check out the Cooperstown Cuvee Blog here, or read the full story here MercuryNews.com.

Hey Mike: You know we’ve been checking in to see what’s next for Cooperstown Cuvee, but it seems as though there’s been a rain delay or something. They haven’t added anything to their blog since late ‘08. We’ll see if we can find anything out, but for now it looks as though there’s no news… How did you like Rollie’s cuvee? How was he in person?
