Wine For Your Valentine.
Just a quick note for Valentine’s Day. Someone asked me what wine I was planning to open for Valentines. I wasn’t sure how to answer…
The truth is, I’m making lobster tail for dinner, so I’ll be opening a bottle of Chardonnay (to be reviewed next week). My wife, who really doesn’t drink wine (I know, I scratch my head about it often), is going to try and partake for once with an Italian prosecco (also to be reviewed next week). I don’t think that’s the answer anyone is looking for when they ask what wine to have for valentines.
I guess if it’s a romantic evening with rose petals on the floor and Burt Bacharach music coming out of the speakers, a bottle of bubbly is in order. The only other thought I have on valentines day is that sometimes people like to each chocolate. What wine to drink with chocolate?
That’s a tough one; it depends on what kind of chocolate you have. If you’re planning on drinking wine, you’re better off eating dark chocolate then say milk chocolate or white chocolate. In that case a big, jammy Zinfandel like the Seghisio Old Vine Zinfandel or a Merlot like the Raymond Reserve Merlot might do the trick.
Otherwise, you could try a late-harvest/desert type wine. These wines are sweet, often enjoyed with a bowl of ice cream or chocolate as well as a plate of rich cheese and fruits. A couple of suggestions:
Rosenblum Désirée Chocolate Dessert Wine
Tobin James Late Harvest Zinfandel “Liquid Love”.
With names like “Liquid Love”, “Désirée and curvy labels, they seem to be appropriate choices for Valentine’s Day. Enjoy!
By the way, the wine glass photo above is from the catalog of Leslie Hand Panted glass; check them out and order some cool, hand painted stemware!
